Maiden Voyage
Published in Paperback by Exact Change (July, 2000)
Authors: Denton Welch and Edith Sitwell
Average review score:

There Should Be a 6 Star Rating For This
This is the book I want them to toss in my coffin before they nail the lid down. I chanced upon Maiden Voyage many years ago and as soon as I finished it, I wanted to read it all over again. The friend, who realized I had borrowed it, rather unpleasantly made me return it. Written autobiographically by a young English boy, it is an astonishing, often scandalous, and occasionally deviant account of a coming of age. Denton's brilliant style, deceptively simple but frank and intimate is timeless. Aspects of British upper class life have altered only a little since this book was written, which was pre WW2. There are still tormented boys on trains heading back to school and contemplating escape. The glimpses of Shanghai still haunt me.

I am rarely as moved by the written word. Denton Welch was a genius, a truly great writer. Maiden Voyage is his most revealing work. Order it immediately! I'm never going to lend my copy to anyone.....

Night Noises
Published in School & Library Binding by Gulliver Books (October, 1989)
Authors: Mem Fox and Terry Denton
Average review score:

Delightful Dignity
Mem Fox's story about the evening adventure of an older lady is told with dignity and joy. As Lily dozes by the fire, she dreams of her life and how it has changed. What an excellent way to introduce children to the concept that as they grow and change, the important things stay the same, such as love and family. It is also a delightful way to assure young children that though family members and neighbors may be old and seem very different, they have lived a life very similar. In our society, often the elderly are portrayed as a burden and not a blessing. Instead of focusing upon the contributions that these people have made, and continue to make, we discuss the burden of "caring for them." This book is a great way to show young children what older people may really be like. Most importantly, it is a sweet book about a delightful old lady and her adorable dog. Children and adults alike will be enthralled by the fabulous illustrations and the mystery of the "Night Noises." This is a book I highly recommend to all readers of quality children's literature. If you have never enjoyed a Mem Fox story before, this is a fabulous way to find a new favorite author.

Plays and Playwrights for the New Millennium
Published in Paperback by The New York Theatre Experience (01 February, 2000)
Authors: Martin Denton, Martin Denton, and Robert Simonson
Average review score:

An Extraordinary Book
This is an excellent anthology of eight really good plays which should delight anyone who loves the theatre or who simply appreciates good writing. Although I definitely had my favorites (When Words Fail, Cafe Society, and Making Peter Pope among them), I'd be hard pressed to imagine a better or broader range of plays. The writings are truly thought-provoking. They offer wonderful insights as they deal with issues such as self-discovery, identity, renewal, responsibility, relationships, participation, involvement, hope. I should mention, this is done with a healthy slice of humor. I laughed a lot. These are fun plays.

The concept of a first-rate theatre critic who sees virtually every play on Broadway and most off and off-off-Broadway productions, selecting and putting together, in one volume, eight of the best new off-off-Broadway plays is extraordinary. And very exciting. It gives us, the reader, the opportunity to experience cutting-edge plays which we might never have heard about if not for this book. Martin Denton's attention grabbing introduction with an oh-so-brilliant critical essay on each of the plays is the proverbial icing on the cake. I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this book.

Understanding political campaigns
This book is an excellent starting place for those people who are interested in politcs and who want to understand how important campaigning is. I read this book for a class at California State University, Fresno. I found it to be very helpful in the class as well as outside the classroom. I highly recommend this book.

The Story of Imelda, Who Was Small
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (28 March, 1985)
Authors: Morris Lurie and Terry Denton
Average review score:

Classic Humorous Bedtime Story
This book has the ability to impart to children the magic and joy there is in the complexity of growing up. It also makes the child's bed a place of comfort and security. The parents are silly yet committed and loving in their search for a solution to Imelda's smallness. Imelda's saddness reaches the children and they empathize with her frustration. The story uses a richness of language that is missing in much of the currently published children's fiction. Reading this story aloud is a pleasure.

The Seduction of Sydney (Harlequin Temptation, No. 748)

Sydney's story is fast-paced, sensual, humorous and compelli
THE SEDUCTION OF SYDNEY by Jamie Denton Review by Barb Deane, Barb's All Romance Book Store

Jamie Denton's September release from Harlequin Temptation's Blaze series is The Seduction of Sydney, HT#748. Sydney's story is fast-paced, sensual, humorous and compelling - not to mention hot! (It is a Blaze story, after all! ) Temptation readers, and all readers of spicy contemporaries, will really enjoy it.

Derek Buchanan has been best friends with Sydney Travers nearly all his life and has been in love with her for longer than he can remember. But the logical and scientific professor cannot communicate his feelings to Sydney and watches her go on one disastrous blind date after another, praying she doesn't find a man more perfect for her than he is. What Derek doesn't know is that Sydney is not really looking for Mr Right for herself, she's interviewing prospective fathers for the baby she is desperate to have.

When Sydney gives up on the men she's been dating, she decides to pick a pop in a test tube and gets artificially inseminated. However, once the procedure is over, her calm, cool and professional veneer crumbles and she ends up sobbing in Derek's arms. One thing leads to another and they have a wonderful night of hot sex. Derek thinks this is the beginning of their wonderful relationship leading to marriage. Sydney is worried how to tell Derek, without losing her best friend, that she plans to marry no one and by the way, she's pregnant and he might be the father.

Jamie does a great job of creating a true friendship between these two before and after the temperature rises with their passionate love-making. Derek's scientific approach to winning his bride, including the man-on-the-street interviews and the extensive research, lead to very funny scenes of typical male blunders. Sydney is a strong, independent, intelligent woman - my favorite kind of heroine. Although she gave a mistake in her past too much influence over her life choices, she learns to trust her heart and Derek. The chemistry between these two is great and their friendship is so believable, I can see them having a long and happy life together. Especially if you are a fan of steamy contemporaries, don't let this one get away!

Highly Recommended
Cliches like well-written, good character development, nice plotting, all apply to this novel, but they build only the foundation. Jamie Denton constructs walls of depth and entertainment with her characters that stand firm and strong against the battering of a plot, while not new, has original twists that bring a fresh approach to this series book. If you seek escapist fare, sensuality, romance and a good story, look no further. THE SEDUCTION OF SYDNEY fits the bill. - Kathee S. Card

Caution: Contents Sizzling Hot
Jamie Denton once again writes a sizzling romance filled with humor to tickle your funny bone, heartwrenching emotion to tug on your heartstrings, and plenty of heat. THE SEDUCTION OF SYDNEY is a book you'll want for your keeper shelf, and Derek Buchanan is a hero you'll want all to yourself. He's a man who knows what he wants and boy, does he know how to please! Sydney isn't the only one who'll be seduced.

¿Warning! Hot Stuff!¿
Architect Jordan McBride is filling in for his brother, Austin, who is currently honeymooning. Jordan is amazed to discover that the small usiness Austin started, to help see himself through college, has now become so popular; the phone never stops ringing! In fact, business is so good, all the entertainers are booked solid right through Valentine's day. Just when Jordan decides he'll have to start turning people away for engagements for the weekend of Valentine's Day, a gorgeous woman walks in, hands over two thousand dollars in cash, and requests a Valentine Fantasy with "the works"!

Cait Sullivan, a reporter who will do almost anything to break away from covering glittery parties and charity auctions of the rich and famous, is tipped off that Fantasy for Hire not only provides entertainment for parties but is a facade to hide the real business of the firm - providing escorts and other questionable "favors". Cait has been desperate to break into the real world of news coverage and she smells a story! Going undercover, Cait is determined to gather enough evidence against the firm and the owner to blow the cover sky high with a story.

VALENTINE FANTASY should have had a clause printed on the first page of the book: "Warning! Hot Stuff!" Jordan McBride was delicious, sexy and charming. Just the kind of hero we all dream about in our fantasies. The sexual tension sizzles from the minute Cait and Jordan meet and the captivating romance of the story is enough to sweep a reader off her feet.

With VALENTINE FANTASY and her previous book, THE SEDUCTION OF SYDNEY, Jamie Denton has displayed a rich talent for writing funny, unforgettable romances that are filled with a wonderful cast of characters and bone-melting love scenes. The dialogue is easy to follow and Ms Denton's storytelling style is a joy to read.

The plot was well thought out and beautifully executed. Ms Denton followed it up with an enticing and delightful story that has an all too sweet and predictable finale.

VALENTINE FANTASY is a wonderful contemporary category romance and fans of Jamie Denton will definitely want to keep this book on their shelf!

Cait Sullivan is tired of writing "fluff" for the gossip columns about the latest glitzy parties and or dog shows. She wants a real story that will help her break into the serious world of investigative news coverage. Tipped off by Louden Avery that Fantasy for Hire is a front for a business that provides more than male strippers, Cait decides to go undercover to investigate further and gather proof.

Jordan McBride, architect, moved back to San Francisco a few months ago and is in the process of setting up his own business. When his brother, Austin, goes on his honeymoon, Jordan agrees to fill in for him for the duration. Jordan is surprised to find that the small entertainment company his brother started just to see himself through college has grown so popular. Business is booming and the entertainers are booked solid.

Jordan is knocked off his feet when Cait walks in looking to hire a "Valentine Fantasy" and ready to pay two thousand dollars for the "works"! Lonely Planet San Francisco (Travel Guides Series)
Published in Paperback by Lonely Planet (January, 2004)
Authors: Richard Sterling, Harry Denton, and Camper English
Average review score:

Not the best if you're not into the gay scene
Seems to concentrate heavily on the gay and lesbian aspects of SF. My wife and I found Eyewitness Travel Guides' San Francisco and Northern California to be much more useful for planning our trip there.

Indispensable for anyone who loves San Fran!
Two years ago, I visited SF for the first time, and I had the second edition of this book. Here we are two years later, and I recently bought the third, and most recent edition. Let me tell you: brilliant rewrite! This edition is even better written, and has better graphics and layout. The staff at Lonely Planet across the Bay in Oakland, sure do know their stuff. This book is for anyone that wants a concise, yet knowledgeable introduction to the history behind the City by the Bay, as well as good reviews on restaurants!

Great Guide Book!
I've used the Lonely Planet series for travel in other parts of the world and L.P. has yet to disappoint me. Their city specific books (like this one) are small, so it's easy to carry with you and the numerous maps in the back are very useful. Each map has the locations marked for all the places noted in the book as well. Unlike other popular travel books, L.P. provides pictures of some of the more popular things to see; I find this very convenient since a picture says a thousand words. The authors of this book are also all San Fran residents and/or natives which made me feel like I was truely getting the inside scoop of where to go and what to do.
